On Monday, November 20, 2023, an information day was held for Circular Economy, as part of the opening ceremony of Industry Week 2023, organized by the Service of Industry and Technology, of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry.
This conference has become an institution and it is the 4th consecutive year it has been held. Its aim is to highlight actions and developments concerning the industry in Cyprus and is part of the wider framework of the policy of the European Commission, which, recognizing the crucial contribution of the sector to the economy of Europe, established the “Days of Industry”.
The conference was greeted by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Giorgos Papanastasiou and the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate-General for the Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Kostas Hatzipanagiotou.
Among the presentations, the Projects of the Department of the Environment for waste and the circular economy were analyzed by Mrs. Ioanna Konstantinidou (Senior Environment Officer), the actions of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry’s Plan for the Circular Economy by Mr. Dimitris Petridis ( Industrial Applications Officer) as well as the results of the Project Progress Report by Mrs. Christina Kokkalou (IMR/University of Nicosia™), as well as the conclusions of a survey carried out among the public and businesses on the circular economy. Afterwards, presentations were made of the actions to promote the Circular Economy in Hotel Units by Mr. Nikolas Nikolaou (Officer of the Department of Energy & Environment, Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation), of the Observatory of Green and Digital Entrepreneurship by Mr. Andreas Andreou (Director of the Department of Industrial Development, Innovation and Environment, CCCI) and the two Circular Economy actions which are funded by U-SOLVE and concern the Artifact Exchange platform and the first Artifacts Lending Library in Cyprus, by Dr. Athina Georgiou Shippi and Mr. Stavros Stylianou (representatives of Non-Profit Organization Kykloikodromio).
