As part of Action C2 of the LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus project, entitled “Installation and Operation of Green Kiosks for Dry Recyclable,” a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MoU) has been prepared with the purpose of ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Green Kiosks.
On 30 October 2025, the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Larnaca District Local Government Organization, and the Larnaca Development Agency (ANETEL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation.
This is the third Memorandum signed within the framework of the LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus project, following those for the Nicosia and Limassol Districts. It aims to further strengthen collaboration among local and regional authorities to ensure the proper and coordinated operation of the Green Kiosks in the Larnaca District.
Through the signing of this agreement, the Larnaca District Local Government Organization, with the consent of the Department of Environment, delegates specific operational responsibilities to the Larnaca Development Company. These include:
- the day-to-day management and operation of the Green Kiosks,
- monitoring their performance and efficiency, and
- collecting and submitting operational data until 2029.
This cooperation ensures that the operation of the Green Kiosks is fully aligned with the national legislation and the requirements of the LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus project. The Green Kiosks serve as key infrastructure that enables residents, especially in rural and remote areas, to actively participate in recycling — contributing to the proper management of municipal waste and the achievement of Cyprus’s environmental goals.
The next step will be the signing of a similar Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation for the Paphos District, completing the series of agreements that govern the operation of the Green Kiosks across all districts of Cyprus.
