On 3 February 2025, within the framework of the cooperation between Project LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus and Zero Waste Alliance Cyprus, an online seminar was held to present a new and innovative food donation platform.

Businesses, Non-Governmental Organisations, and Local Authorities participated in the event with the aim of becoming acquainted with a digital tool designed to act as a catalyst for the reduction of food waste and to support Cyprus’s transition towards more sustainable and responsible resource management practices.

Content of the Seminar

During the seminar, the operational framework of the food donation platform was presented in detail, alongside the benefits that businesses in the food service and hospitality sectors can derive from participating in a structured and secure system for the redistribution of surplus food.

The Project LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus team also outlined the actions currently being implemented to address food waste, highlighting the role of the Project in promoting and supporting the food donation platform as part of a broader transition towards circular economy models.

A constructive dialogue developed with participants, who raised questions and expressed concerns regarding issues of food safety and hygiene, as well as the practical operation of the system. These discussions covered aspects such as the location and timing of food collection and the overall management process. Participants additionally shared suggestions and recommendations for features they would like to see incorporated into the platform, thereby actively contributing to its ongoing improvement.
