Among the main actions of the LIFE IP Zero Waste Cyprus Project is Action C4.3, which focuses on reducing food waste. For this purpose, a collaboration has been established with the Zero Waste Alliance Cyprus, aiming to support, promote, and strengthen existing initiatives implemented by organizations in Cyprus. The activities developed within this cooperation include:

reducing waste in farmers’ markets,

reducing waste in the catering and hospitality sector,
-
and raising awareness among the wider public.
As part of this joint effort, on 24 September 2025, an event will be held entitled: “Circular Economy and Food Donation”, co-organized by the Department of Environment, the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB), and the NGO Friends of the Earth.
The event is addressed to stakeholders in the catering and hospitality sector, with the aim of informing and supporting them on issues of food waste prevention and reduction. In particular, the event will present:
✅ Good practices for reducing food waste
✅ A step-by-step Food donation process Guide
✅ Green tools for the sustainable transition of businesses
✅ Use of the FoodConnect donation platform, with hands-on guidance from registration to listing available products.
The goal of the event is to help businesses connect with practices already applied by organizations that bring significant benefits, to understand the advantages of food donation, and to make further use of the Food donation process Guide, which was developed in collaboration with the Health Services of the Ministry of Health, as a tool to address challenges related to the safety and hygiene of food donations.
