One of the leading international scientific conferences in the field of waste management is coming to Cyprus: the 12th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management will be hosted in Paphos from 25 to 28 June 2025.
The conference is held under the auspices of the LIFE-IP Zero Waste Cyprus project and is expected to gather more than 500 participants from Cyprus and abroad. Attendees will include scientists & professionals from government departments, industries, Municipalities, private institutions, research & education institutions, and other entities active in the sector.
This year’s event presents a unique opportunity to showcase Cyprus’s national efforts in rational waste management and the promotion of the circular economy, through the LIFE-IP Zero Waste Cyprus, which is co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE Programme.
Throughout the Conference (25–27 June), partners of the LIFE-IP Zero Waste Cyprus will deliver presentations highlighting actions, preliminary results, priorities, and best practices implemented under the project framework.
In addition, on 26 June, a special thematic session dedicated to LIFE Programme Projects will be held, featuring exemplary initiatives from Cyprus and other countries. This session will emphasize the critical role of the LIFE Programme in advancing innovative solutions for waste management and supporting the green transition.
LIFE-IP Zero Waste Cyprus is an umbrella-project supporting the implementation of Cyprus’s National Strategy on the circular economy and waste management. It promotes:

the separate collection and source of biowaste,

waste prevention,
-
reuse and recycling,
-
public awareness and education and
-
collaboration with local authorities and businesses.
Its implementation is closely linked to the execution of the Municipal Waste Management Plan 2022–2028 and the National Waste Prevention Programme 2025–2031, with a planning horizon extending to 2029.
